Russell Patterson was a well-known 1940s Western artist, and so was a natural choice to muralize the walls of the buffet and observation lounges. Picking up the theme of the country through which the CZ ran, he painted landscapes, ranch scenes and horses.

A Patterson mountain scene graces the lounge walls of one of the dome observations (possibly the Silver Solarium). From a CZ brochure, c. 1950.

Each of the dome-observation's lounge murals was unique (D&RGW photo).
